Malaysian Bloggers Conference And Terengganu

Sunday, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak of Malaysia spearheaded the First Malaysian Bloggers Conference entitled, Blogging Mindfully and Responsibly. This uplifted my democracy spirit while I was reading the morning papers while I was at the gym taking a sip of coffee after a mild hangover from last night's birthday.

Democracy and freedom of expression is starting to touch base within the liberal culturalism of Malaysian. The Prime Ministered promised that the Malaysian government will not censor the internet but has pointed out that bloggers should write responsibly.

The Government will accept constructive criticism and allow freedom of speech on blogs but we must draw the line at lies. - PM Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak

Like what with Wikileaks recently that the freedom of expression was totally abused. This is where the authority would be taking place.

In line with this blog post, at the state of Terengganu, sixty-six locals were sent to anti-gay counselling for showing signs of effeminate mannerisms. Education official Razali Daud says the boys reported Monday for what is officially being called a self-development course.

Terengganu state is known for its is religious conservatism.

So did I write responsibly?

Alfie's Home: Most Disturbing Children's Book

Hello mothers,

Please be careful in picking children's book for your kids. Some authors, like Richard Cohen, are very pronounced with liberalism that they forget that children need strong family-oriented values before you expose them to the real world.

I know it is somewhat hypocritical yet these minds are too young to be influenced with what's currently happening. On the other hand, I admire the author and publisher as to coming up with a book that reflects with what happens in real life.

Birthday Cakes

OK, I am officially twenty-six. As what I have mentioned, I had nothing grandeur planned for my birthday. I followed my usual routine, wake up before 5PM, have a quick bite, go to the shower, brush my teeth, rush to the gym then head to work. But last night it was different.

[caption id="attachment_4123" align="aligncenter" width="560" caption="Custard Cake From Anita"]Custard Cake From Anita[/caption]

It paid off to diverse the usual thighs and legs, and shoulder workout last night because some of my newly found friends at Fitness First Menara Axis gave me a surprise. I remember that Anita mentioned before that her name was called on the PA announcing it was her birthday. And I think she did that to me, too! They brought a cake, cute cupcakes and chocolates. All sweet stuff! I would not say how many calories I have eaten while I was at the gym, LOL.

[caption id="attachment_4134" align="aligncenter" width="560" caption="Custard Cake From Vange"]Custard Cake From Vange[/caption]

Then at work, Vange gave me the same cake which I received from the gym. I bought some pizzas and share it with the my colleagues.

This post could not be anymore personal. It is touching to actually receive even the simplest sweet cravings during your milestone in life. And it is very flattering that Anita and Vange, the two girls whom initiated and extended their friendship first on my first step in Malaysia were the ladies who gave me these sweet cakes. For my friends whom shared dinner with me and greeted my on my birthday. And also, to my online friends who practically saved a lot by just greeting me on all social networks I am subscribed, rather than sending me greeting cards, I really appreciate the thought.

Ergo, I should move on. I am past-thru the quarter life of my supposedly assuming century-life span and I should get some sleep.

Know Your True Strength

Last week I saw a poster at Fitness First Menara Axis that the classes today at the main Group X studio will be cancelled because they are holding a seminar sponsored by GNC and Optimum Nutrition. I wanted to attend but it starts at 7PM to 9:30PM, so it is a no-no.  During the time while I was there watching outside the studio, I saw that they were featuring new products by GNC and Optimum Nutrition. I couldn't get an image as this product is very new.

[caption id="attachment_4082" align="aligncenter" width="522" caption="Know Your True Strength"]Know Your True Strength[/caption]

It is a pre-work out supplement that has caffeine from green tea and some nutrients that perk up your mood to lift. Also, it contains BCAA that your body could not produce naturally, therefore, it gives you more simpler forms of protein which your muscles could absorb immediately upon needed.

[caption id="attachment_4083" align="aligncenter" width="522" caption="Fitness First Menara Axis - Know Your True Strength"]Fitness First Menara Axis - Know Your True Strength[/caption]

Three athletes from Team ON were also there to answer questions from the attendees how they can make use of supplements in increasing the possibility of true strength while getting yourself fitter into shape.

Tomorrow, they will be at Fitness First The Curve for another session at 10 in the morning.

To Juice or Not To Juice?

[caption id="attachment_4043" align="alignright" width="214" caption="Orange Juice"]Orange Juice[/caption]

As you know I am a fan of vegetables and fruit juices. Cooking on your own gives you more flexibility of choosing the healthier ingredient for your next lunch or supper. But sometimes it is harder to get the ingredients you wanted when you are limited to a nearby small market. Unless you wanted to stock the fridge with green, yellow and red stuff; though it has to be consumed immediately. So I put myself forth to vegetable and fruit juices on tetra packs.

I know for a fact that these juices on packs contain high amount of sugars which left unburned, are converted into fat. I do not mind intaking sugar especially after I wake up because I know that I would be needing the sugar rush when I do my rounds at the gym. But for people who have a more sedentary lifestyle, these juices could add up more pounds than you would ever think!

Juices are generally healthy. It contains a supple amount of antioxidants and vitamins to nourish your body. So technically, juices in tetra packs or bottles are not part of a strict healthy eating plan unless you are squeezing it directly from your food processor or squeezer.

[color_box title="The label shows organic, natural, 100% juice with no sugar added!" variation="glossy_black"]
Even juices that are labelled organic and natural are not really natural because they already contain preservatives. Again, read the nutrition content, above 15 gms of sugar per serving is already considered high.
[/color_box]

I have not discussed the comparison of the instant powderized fruit juices, yet because it is way too artificial compared to the two classifications of freshly squeezed juice and the ready-to-drink ones.

[color_box title="Fruits also contain sugar, right?" variation="glossy_black"]
Indeed, that is why mostly fruits are sweet. But complexity of sugar content differs. The sugar that you would find in fruits is fructose. This is a more simple form of sugar compared to those in ready-to-drink packs or bottles.
[/color_box]

Buy a quality juicer and make your own juice at home. A cup of mixed fruits with vegetable can be converted into a glass of healthy drink. Mix it with another part of water if you want it less sweeter or contentrated. This is a great option without having to numb and chump vegetables and fruits if you can't incorporate it with your lunch for the day. Also, consider drinking it right after squeezing because natural light damages the nutrition. Putting it inside the fridge decreases 20% of its nutrition content due to oxidation.

Which Multivitamin Supplements?

[caption id="attachment_4038" align="aligncenter" width="424" caption="Vitamins Supplement"]Vitamins Supplement[/caption]

Have you heard the vitamin supplements make you fat? Tell you what, this is a myth.

When you put more nutrients into your body, your body is less stressed and you feel more energetic especially if it is packed with Vitamin B complex that promote good metabolism. So you tend to eat more, but the content itself of each capsule does not make you anyhow fatter. Actually a capsule of a multivitamin has zero calories with no sugars added on it.

But why do some people overload themselves with these supplements? They tend to think that the more supplements they intake, the more nutrients they would have. This is true, but moderation is the key. Besides some of these vitamins and minerals are water soluble so they are really flushed out of your system when the body detects that you have exceeded your daily recommended intake.

Taking multivitamin supplements becomes senseless if you also do not eat healthy food, especially the fat ones. This is the basic principle of healthy living. Better yet, charge yourself with these supplements, enjoy a good workout outside or at the gym and then, feed yourself with the proper food intake. I know it is not a quick-fix to make you look fitter, but it is a jumpstart in getting into shape.

Corn As Your Carbohydrate Alternative

[caption id="attachment_4031" align="alignright" width="300" caption="Sweet Corn"]Sweet Corn[/caption]

Fan of corn? I am, but I have limited myself in eating it because of the braces. Not just its painful to bite, but also, I am very cautious that it will damage the cement when I bite it directly from the cob. So I have no choice but to scrape it off using a knife.

Going back to diet issue, corn is a nice source of carbohydrates. Meaning, though you can find it in the vegetable section of the supermarket, your body recognizes this as 'grain'. Corn is made up of complex carbohydrates that provide you energy and fuel through out the day. So if you are eating rice and corn in a meal, it is like eating two servings of 'grains'.

[caption id="attachment_4032" align="alignleft" width="300" caption="Corn Nutrition Facts"]Corn Nutrition Facts[/caption]

A cup of sweet corn is also a good source of dietary fiber. That's why some of the dietary supplement that helps the bowel movement composes of corn ingredient.

Fresh is good. But how about the microwable pop corns or the usual pop corns that you could buy at the movie houses? I would stay away from these stuff because it is filled with saturated fat from the butter that they used.

If you want to lose weight or replace white grain rice with something, I would go for this option.

Also, you may want to check out the detailed nutrition facts of corn per serving:

Full House Sunway Pyramid

I failed to attend the Saturday classes of Body Jam and Body Combat earlier because I overslept. Maybe the heavy weights yesterday dug myself into bed that I felt very heavy when I woke up around 4PM.

Newly found friends at the gym invited me over to go to Sunway Pyramid to dine out. I have been killing myself cooking home food everyday to save and maybe it was time to spend some RM for some real dining.

[pullquote_left]To eat is to exist;
to dine is to live.[/pullquote_left]

Farah bought a pink Nikon Lumix camera. Rahmat and I were here bodyguard *nice*.

We ate at Full House just below Esprit. It has a very nice ambiance which was a copycat of the Full House Korean TV series. Apart from the food and dessert, they also sell Korean clothes and accessories and some home decor.

The price range is from RM 20 - 25. That includes the main course and drinks. Expect that most of the food choices here are limited and mostly western food profile tough there are a few local Malaysian dish. And so I thought I will be spending but Rahmat treated us! Thaanks :)

Oh, when you get a chance to drop by and visit, please ask if it is Halal? :D

Proper Foot Measurement for a Healthier Feet

Don't you just dare buy your new pair of rubber shoes - make sure your feet are measured thoroughly first!

[caption id="attachment_3735" align="aligncenter" width="400" caption="Shen Xiaojing Feet"]Shen Xiaojing Feet[/caption]

According to study and reports, it show that the footwear we put on everyday have a substantial impact on the weight on our knee joints which will definitely impair your quality of living as you move forward. A very minute abnormality on your foot function will have great impact not just on your knee joints, but it will cause discomfort and pain, too.

It is essential to ensure that children grow with a healthy pair of feet to further avoid foot abnormalities such as being flatfooted and having rear foot valgus (this is a condition in which the foot rear is curve outwards at the joint of the ankle). Good thing that these abnormalities take cumulative effects from years of age and how you use them.

Also, women are more prone to foot problems because they wear high-heels and some of the footwear have a point-toe design.

The insoles stands as the stage in proper state while walking, running or doing your daily activities, even just standing; controlling flatfoot deformities and minimizing the complications that may come with it. Some accessories are put inside the soles of your shoes such as polyether gel, this absorbs the shock most especially on your heels.

So apart from buying the ready-to-wear ones, make sure that you get the right size and insole design for your foot proportions and arch.

Rebecca Black - Prom Night

Rebecca Black hits again with a new off-key song with the help of Garage Band.

NOT!

This is a parody of the song Friday which is starting to get viral as well on Youtube. But, Rebecca squashed the rumors on what has been reported to be her Twitter account, writing that the ditty was not her reprisal from “Friday.”

According to her, she's working with pros in writing and creating a new song that will not deal with Fridays, days of the weeks and fun!

Take The Test Project

[caption id="attachment_3498" align="alignright" width="158" caption="Take the Test"]Take the test[/caption]

Charm rarely posts stuff on her Facebook wall. Earlier, while I was very non-productive at work, her posted link struck me!

The group's aim is to provide adequate information on HIV and AIDS and make HIV testing more accessible to everyone; awareness campaign on HIV, FREE HIV Antibody Testing, pre-test and post-test HIV counseling (one-on-one), effective referral and follow-up. This increasing the awareness of the community that there are people roaming around carrying HIV without their knowledge. Likewise, Prevention is better than Cure!.

Also, this initiative serves an eye-opener to self-proclaimed bigots who pathetically passed an ordinance of getting a doctor's prescription before you acquire a condom. An FYI to our fellow Catholics that Science research on increasing population of HIV and AIDS does not demoralize your whole-being of believing in God.

I remember that I had my HIV test before I went to Malaysia as OWWA/POEA requirement before you work as an OFW here. Proudly, I have taken the test!

Like the Take The Test Project on Facebook.

I condole with the families who lost their loved ones with the recent lethal injection persecution in China. While I was reading the papers at the gym earlier, another Filipina is facing a possible death penalty in Malaysia.

She is Aida Dizon Garcia, 51, a lecturer from Quezon City, who was caught with almost 12 kg of cannabis or marijuana last year of November while on her way inside a bus from Kuala Lumpur. She was at Thailand prior to arriving here in Malaysia as a tourist. According to the news, she pleaded not guilty. As she couldn't afford to hire a translator and a lawyer, the Malaysian government gave her one.

Fitter Fats in Nuts

[caption id="attachment_3464" align="alignright" width="413" caption="Healthy Nuts"]Healthy Nuts[/caption]

You are munching on some peanuts while on a slimming diet. Did you know that it contains a very high content of fat? Whoa!!! What's good about these nuts, even they contain fats, they are very healthy.

There are different kinds of fats. For the sake of this article, I will just mention about unsaturated fats and saturated one. Nuts contain a healthy polyunsaturated and monosaturated fat. This is very different from saturated and trans fat that you can find on red meat, dairy products, cooking oil and junk food. Although you have to be careful in eating tons of this because it will definitely contribute to your fat intake and your weight gain.

The fats in nuts also contain omega-3 fatty acids. Apart from this, it contains several vitamins like tocopherol, minerals such as magnesium, zinc and copper, folic acid, fibers and antioxidants which are beneficial to a healthy diet that promotes healthy weight loss. Some clinical studies have shown that eating a small amount of peanuts helped the respondents to lose weight.

Also, nuts is a great source of plan protein. Studies have shown that nuts are beneficial in lowering the risk of heart disease and other related conditions such as hypertension. Nuts can help lower your low-density lipoprotein (LDL - the bad cholesterol) by alleviating your high-density lipoprotein (HDL - the good cholesterol).

I know I most like eating. Most patries and dessert come with nuts. It give a very good texture on the food.
